چکیده

Phlebotomine sand flies are vectors of several diseases importance for public health, including leishmaniosis, bartonellosis, and fly fevers. An entomological survey on blood-feeding Diptera was conducted in June–November 2020–2021 to know the diversity insect Mallorca (Balearic Islands, Spain). Among collected, Phlebotomus (Larroussius) perfiliewi Parrot, 1930 found being first record this species Spain. s.l. is one main Leishmania infantum Mediterranean Basin Central Asia. The identification confirmed by both morphological features DNA barcoding. Phylogenetic analyses showed that specimens captured were Ph. s.s. (99.85–100% homologues from Italy Algeria specimens), with a sequence divergence 0.17%. cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene clearly separates three make up complex. In addition, we also provide brief discussion about their remarks, phylogenetic relationships, vector status.

Phlebotomus (Larroussius) orientalis (Diptera: Psychodidae) as a probable secondary vector of visceral leishmaniasis in Kenya.

According to the World Health Organization’s reports, leishmaniases in humans are caused by 20 species of protozoa, belonging to the genus Leishmania1. The parasites are transmitted by the bite of a female tiny, 2–3 mm long insect vector, the phlebotomine sandfly1. Leishmaniasis endemic areas in Kenya are—West Pokot, Kitui, Machakos, Meru, Koibatek and Kajiado districts2–6. Kala-azar (Visceral ...

Phlebotomus perfiliewi transcaucasicus is circulating both Leishmania donovani and L. infantum in northwest Iran.

Leishmania infantum is the causative agent of infantile visceral leishmaniasis (IVL) in the Mediterranean Basin and, based on isoenzyme typing of the parasite isolated from dogs; this parasite was considered to predominate in the all foci of IVL in Iran. However, based on PCR detection and sequencing of parasite Cysteine Protease B (CPB), only one out of seven sandfly infections in Phlebotomus ...

Molecular Detection of Leishmania infantum in Naturally Infected Phlebotomus perfiliewi transcaucasicus in Bilesavar District, Northwestern Iran

BACKGROUND Visceral leishmaniasis is caused by Leishmania infantum, transmitted to humans by bites of phlebotomine sand flies and is one of the most important public health problems in Iran. To identify the vector(s), an investigation was carried out in Bilesavar District, one of the important foci of the disease in Ardebil Province in northwestern Iran, during July-September 2008. METHODS Us...

Phylogenetic analysis of Phlebotomus species belonging to the subgenus Larroussius (Diptera, psychodidae) by ITS2 rDNA sequences.

In the genealogy of Phlebotomus (Diptera: Psychodidae), morphological analyses have indicated that the subgenus Larroussius is a monophyletic group which is most closely related to the subgenera Transphlebotomus and Adlerius. We conducted a phylogenetic analysis of the relationships among six representative species of the subgenus Larroussius and one species representatitive of the Phlebotomus ...

Identification of Sand flies of the Subgenus Larroussius based on Molecular and Morphological Characters in North Western Iran

BACKGROUND THE ADULT FEMALE SAND FLIES (DIPTERA: Psychodidae) of the subgenus Larroussius are important vectors of Leishmania infantum (Kinetoplastida: Tripanosomatidae) in Meshkinshahr district, Northwest of Iran. Four Phlebotomus (Larroussius) species are present in this area, i.e. Phlebotomus (Larroussius) kandelakii, P. (La.) major, P. (La.) perfiliewi and P. (La.) tobbi. The objective of t...
